To what extend did the Dred Scott decision impact slave prices? Did this inspire slaveholders to take up arms, leading to the Civil War? Professor Calomiris explores these two historical questions in an illustrated lecture.


Charles Calomiris is one of the country's leading authorities on financial institutions. His research spans the areas of banking, corporate finance, financial history, and monetary economics. He is a member of the Shadow Financial Regulatory Committee, the Shadow Open Market Committee, the Financial Economists Roundtable, and a research associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research.
